Super Dimension Fortress Macross ~ 超時空要塞マクロス

Macross was the one of the first anime that I watched and spark my interest in anime. I have been meaning to get the DVD for the series for the longest time since I never did manage to watch the whole thing on TV, but never got to it until now. I have just finish watching it before I wrote this post, and the feeling is great, the anime maybe old but it’s still a good anime ^^.

I guess some of the younger generation (yes I am not young anymore *sigh*) probably doesn’t know much about this series. Macross is a love story against the backdrop of an epic battle between human and alien forces. Yup despite all the mecha and fighting, it’s actually a love story between some of the main characters. The series also have some of the nicest songs in an anime, sang by her voice actress Mari Iijima who also wrote some of the songs in the series. For more information about this series just head over to this link.

This is probably the best Macross box set to be released. AnimeEigo digitally restored, enhanced and transfer this unedited and uncut version of the original Macross TV series. It was first release as a 3 box set and later was combined into a single box set. Included in this sets are detailed liner notes on each episodes, the mecha, characters and technology.

Different important characters from the series adorned the cover of each DVD case, seen here are Ichijo Hikaru, Kamjin and Misa Hayase.

Here we have Exsedol, the one getting step on by the Battroid is Roy Focker, and the last one is Britai.

After watching this series again, I am looking forward to Macross F which will be release in 2008, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Macross. Macross F will be a direct sequel to Macross 7. I should probably take some time to watch Macross Zero, prequel to the original Macross, never did finish watching it when it was released as an OVA, the disc probably somewhere in my DVD album XD.

Totally forgot that I also have the soundtrack to the series, bought it quite a long time ago, disc still play fine though haha. It contains all the songs and music from the series.

    Wow. Old school. Though I’m not getting any younger as well, have never watched this anime though. Guess thats just evidence of a sad and empty childhood, lol ^^;

    But as a kid, never really was into robots. Back then I actually did outdoor activities though nobody would believe that now heh. Thats why I never did get into this anime, even Gundams I only started liking only like last year :/ Which means I missed out on all the other older stuff of Gundams as well -_-

    Nostalgic, I too had the “wow” impression when I saw the Valkyrie’s transform. This show was one of the earliest animes that I was exposed to. The VF-1S is my favorite (Ichijo’s version), I have the Super Valkyrie version on my desk. Maybe I’ll take a look around and see if I can find the newer version for sale. I have the original books as well, it’s a great read and nearly identical to the anime.

    70€ for the whole Macross (first series) collection? Not bad, I thought it was more expensive. Perhaps I maybe amongst the younger generations (1986 :P ) since I only started watching Macross recently and I’m enjoying it ^^

    Thanks for the great photo review! They look fantastic! I’ve been looking for a “correct” (i.e. original Japanese TV edition) Macross DVD boxset for the longest time. It’d be great if you could drop me a mail about the video and sub quality! Also, I’d like to ask if the dialogue is available in both original Japanese and English? Thanks once again!

    @shino~yeah it’s old school, really old haha. hmm seems like you are less an outdoor person now though XD
    @ron~hehe, i have always love macross
    @AS~I think most kids that watch Macross at the time are impress by the transforming mecha. I have read the book too, but it’s the robotech version though, I think I have all the books in the series :D
    @danny~yeah minmay is great but misa ain’t bad either :D
    @Belela~I guess the anime is so old not much people knows about, hence less demand and cheaper price :D Well after you finish with Macross, you can try getting the movies that came after that, don’t forget macross plus and macross zero as well ^^
    @Benjamin~no problem ^^

    I have the early DVD of the Macross Saga. This is the best mecha anime for me. I particularly like Macross Zero and blogged about it as one of my top 5 anime for the simple reason that it has the best dogfights I’ve seen. Really cool VFs by the way. ^^

  8. valho says:

    @shinji~I just recently finish watching Macross Zero, and was really impress by the dogfights, really impressive, though the story is a bit too supernatural but still a nice anime.

  9. macross says:

    Errr …. I believe the Valkyrie Fighter which you capture from the movie is VF-1J not VF-1S.
    And THIS IS MY FAVORITE ANIME TOO!!!!
