Comic Fiesta 2007

After our first exhibit at Anime Fest in June, we were looking forward to Comic Fiesta ’07 which was held at Times Square last weekend. After all it’s one of the bigger anime event to be held locally, which means more visitors and more cosplayers.

My company dinner was on the day before we were gonna be exhibiting, so I was dead tired when I was back, and had to pack up the 20 figures to I’ll be bringing to the event. All together I use 2 big boxes and 2 smaller boxes for transport my figures, they were all wrapped only in paper, I was praying the whole time that nothing breaks during transport. Fortunately my prayer was answered phew. Took a photo of the boxes before I left home in the morning ^^.

Lots of photos after the jump, 56kers beware ^^.

The turn out for the event was good, lots of people around and as usual our booth was quite crowded ^^ with visitors taking photos. There’s dslr, handphone cam, PnS and any other electronics that can be use to take photos.

The guy who made it all possible ^^.

Next time instead of just putting up strictly no touching sign, I think we probably need to put up becareful with your lens and elbow XD.

The crowds and the rows of figures ^^.

Not sure what he’s suppose to be cosplaying, he was hanging around near our booth so I just too a photo of him. The armor is quite cool, now all he needs is a big ass sword.

Tried to take photos of the Hare Hare Yukai dance but lens not long enough, need a 75-300 maybe haha.

A girl singing, probably an anime theme I guess.

Some cosplayers photos that I manage to take, not much though, coz I lend my battery to another photographer, hopefully he’ll send some of the photos he took to me soon.

The aftermath, it’s time to go home, with everything pack and ready to go.

Some stuff that I got for free haha coz as usual I didn’t buy anything XD.

I find this event is much more exciting and happening than the previous one that we went to, probably coz they been having this for a few years now. The venue is nice and easily accessible, best of all the lighting is good, especially since our booth is near the window so we get some natural light as long as it doesn’t rain anyway.

There are more variety of cosplayers around, instead of just Naruto and Bleach, apparently there was a Shana but I didn’t saw her, though I did see Mikuru, see if you can spot her in the Hare Hare Yukai dance photos. Someone even setup a proper area for cosplayer to take photos, with clean background and lighting.

As usual our figures display are quite well received with lots of visitors taking photos. So this is something that we probably gonna do again, but definitely need to improve on the logistic haha, it’s still quite a nightmare XD. It was also great meeting some fellow figures collectors that visited our booth on that day, we should probably do a gathering of sort someday ^^.

    Thanks for the great pics Val! :) Especially the pics of those figures, the Ayu looks pretty good. I love how they displayed the figures.

  13. kiddokun says:

    Awesome. I loved the whole booth. Too bad it was crowded most of the time. I could hardly move and take photos. +_+; Which one were you during the day ? I tried to ask those people at the booth, but was pretty shy. XD;;

    So I suppose that most of the figurines there were yours ? You’ve got quite a big collection. Anyway, hope to see this booth again in another anime convention. Hey, if you need more figurines for your next booth, do tell us. I’m sure most of us could contribute a figure or two. :)

  14. valho says:

    @victor~thanks ^^, we decide this is the best way to display the figures, can display a lot and all are visible
    @kiddokun~thanks ^^, haha yeah it was quite crowded most of the time. I was the one in black and wearing blue jeans, holding a Canon dslr. I have 20 figures on display that day ^^. Yup we are looking for other convention that we can display our collection, sure, it’ll be great if other collectors can join us ^^.

  15. cholic says:

    ZOMG i saw myself in those pic D:
    Anyway you have such a nice collection and I really envy you >.<”

  16. Belela-san says:

    There’s something here that I don’t understand……if this was held in Times Square how come the I only see Asians? Not that I have anything against any race on the planet it’s just that if this was in Times Square there should loads of westerners (americans) there, or is there a Times Square outside New York?

    Anyway it’s an interesting festival, putting your own figures on display for other people to take pictures, I would like to do the same with both my figures and gunpla, of course I would have to choose my gunpla wisely since I don’t want to show the crap that I made on some kits especially on OYW RX-78-2 :( (will probably get another RX-78-2 to redeem myself)

  17. valho says:

    @cholic~haha really ^^
    @Belela-san~It’s the Times Square in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ^^. yeah we just started to do this year, and the respond was pretty good ^^

  18. Radiant says:

    Awww tight! It looks like a lot of fun! That’s quite the collection of figurines there, Valho! Congrats on getting such a nice display going! Did you guys print those labels out yourselves? That must have been a lot of work.

    It’s cool to see such a great interest in anime happening in ML! Just looking at the keen interest of the people taking the photos, that’s just awesome.

  19. figured says:

    I wish I could have been there to see so many figures in one place! Maybe someday I’ll own that many xD; (Yeah right! But I can dream right?).

  20. valho says:

    @radiant~yeah it was great ^^, tiring but fun. One of the collector printed it :) There’s always an interest in anime, so now we are introducing figures to the masses ^^
    @figures~^^ well you are bound to own as many if you continue buying hehe

  21. figured says:

    That’s very true xD;;; eep.

  22. super rats says:

    Nice. It looked like a lot of fun. Be careful with your lens and elbow…hehe. Yeah. Even when I’m shooting at home sometimes the lens bumps into the figure.

  23. Serene says:

    Yay.. There’s another girl :P Hi hi Byaku-chan ^^ Oh yea.. other merchandise was too poisoning.. you shud go see :P I shud bought more ^^” 60+ is reali o.O and 20 figures so much adi haha.. Nvm, next time “steal” ur hikaru hehehe.. Oh.. gonna hav an anime convention next year in Kuching, interested? :P A chance to promote figures to Kuching ppl ;)

  24. e-jump says:

    Kuching is too FAR my dear O_o . Nevertheless, by next display booth maybe we should put a poll or something so people can vote what they wants to see in real life. Well, just an idea anyway :p
    Valho, next weekend in sg.Wang event, going?

  25. valho says:

    @figures~XD
    @super rats~yeah it was quite fun, lens is always a danger around figures XD
    @serene~yup there is ^^, next time will look at all the booths more throughly ^^.wahh next time must keep a close eyes on my Hikaru next time :D . as e-jump say Kuching is too far, logistic is a nightmare, but if go there just to take photo and see stuff it’s ok ^^

  26. Hexlord says:

    It was a nice event and I get to meet up with many old friends :)

  28. e-jump says:

    988 StarDJ Cosplay Competition on Sunday 30th. Since the prizes looks luxury enough, I bet its gonna be real quality cosplay showdown.

  29. Hangmen says:

    When I was in Hobbycon 2007 (local event in KK, Sabah), I do get a bunch of cameras on my booth, but most of them wanted to take pictures of either a small display of my military figures or together with me, the military otaku wearing a heavy assault vest, helmet, goggles and face mask. Was selling spare items for 1/6 action figures, but garnered little interests with buyers.

  30. dytia says:

    hi there.. luv your figurines. By the way I was the Mikuru in the Hare Hare Yukai dance. And FYI, I cosplayed Shana on the 1st day.

    Hope to see you guys in other events like GACC. :)

  31. hanxdesign says:

    love ya photos.. was there at the event as well.. didn’t really stay there long as I was quite occupied that day itself..

    I’ve been reading ya’ blog for awhile and was surprise to see that it was actually you who were displaying the figurines booth. Could’ve said “hi” if I knew earlier :)

    Anyway, looking forward for next years comic fiesta~

  34. valho says:

    @e-jump~sounds interesting, but probably will be limited to taking photos of cosplayers on stage
    @Hangmen~haha i think a military otaku in assault vest, helmet etc looks more interesting eh ^^
    @dytia~thanks ^^, nice cosplaying as Mikuru btw, too bad I didn’t manage to take photos of you, would have love to see you cosplaying as Shana as well, but wasn’t free to go that day. hmm GACC still nothing confirm yet, maybe just go there to take photos ^^
    @hanxdesign~thanks ^^, hehe, well we’ll probably do it again next year, so come and visit us then ^^
    @danny~wow that’s great, thank
