Kate @ TTDI Park

Portrait shoot at TTDI Park last weekend together with some photogs, with 2 girls as our model. We started a bit late, so the shoot ended around 2 something. Good thing too, if we have ended it later, we would have been caught in the rain.

Quite satisfied with the result from this shoot, though I feel I still need to work on my composition, and proper metering when shooting portrait. I need to get use to watching the shutter speed when using Av mode, some of the shot were taken at low shutter speed, I was lucky the photo wasn’t blur because most of the time I was either kneeling or sitting on the ground.

The 100mm f/2.8 really works great for portrait, really glad that I bought the lens. I use it for majority of the shots except for some of the ones taken on the bridge. The bridge shakes a bit so the IS on the 17-85 helps.

Shots taken using Canon EOS 400D/Rebel XTi with Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens and Canon EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens.

@Prim3~hahah really, you are the second person to say that, thanks
@vkeong~thanks for the encouragement, will shoot more :)

Definitely cute girls if you ask me ^^. Tell me did what mode on the camera did you use? Portrait or totally manual? Cause the photos are great, everything (apart from the background in most) is “detailed” (focused) O.o

  5. valho says:

@Belela-san~I use Av mode for the shoot, so depending on the depth of field I want I increase/decrease the aperture accordingly. The only other thing I change is the ISO, this is to keep the shutter speed high enough in case of camera shake

  6. Belela-san says:

By Av mode you mean aperture priority right?

  7. valho says:

    @Belela-san~yup aperture priority

  8. Belela-san says:

Lol I got another question ^^, the shutter was automatic correct? Like you set the aperture you want then when you focus the camera automatically sets the shutter speed right? Cause with my camera when I choose Aperture priority and control the aperture the camera itself chooses the shutter speed.

  9. valho says:

yup with aperture priority, the camera will automatically set the shutter speed, so if you need higher shutter speed, you’ll need to either use bigger aperture or higher ISO.

shooting human portrait is kinda different from toys because human esp. the new model doesn’t know how to pose :)

  11. valho says:

@vincent~same concept but more difficult coz have to work with the model as well and then there’s those small small detail that have to take care off like hair in the face, etc. Really good learning experience
